Lower River

The Lower River — Some 1200 feet beneath the fisherman’s Eden of Harriman State Park lies the lower Henry’s Fork.  This is literally where the river meets the real world, where the constraints of human settlement, development, and infrastructure very highly impact the Henry’s Fork.  It is also where the Henry’s Fork Foundation’s headquarters are located, and where HFF is doing the most progressive and comprehensive work.  HFF has partnered with state and federal agencies, conservation organizations and local landowners in collaborative efforts to understand and preserve this previously dismissed 50-mile section of world-class trout waters.  We will learn about the active research projects the Foundation has undertaken, as well as what more can be done to help.It is from this point that the passionate stewards of this river release it down stream through the farmlands of the Snake River Plain in Southern Idaho and beyond.  The author Charles Brooks once asked, “Look at your river, what is it telling you?”  It is only through respectful observations that we can begin to understand the individual features of an ecosystem and how they contribute to a watershed.  In their unique resolution to preserve and protect the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River, the members, staff, and volunteers of the Henry’s Fork Foundation truly are “the voice of the river.”
